Cassina Chairs Leggera

Gio Ponti designed the classic Leggera chair for Cassina. Ponti’s ability to articulate multiple registers allowed for a conversation between the modern and the antique, which was one of the most fascinating aspects of his poetics.

The desire to own things whose forms can convey, through their forms, the modernity of the moment in which we live is encapsulated in the 646 Leggera chair, making it symbolic in terms of construction. The 646 Leggera chair allows for fruitful experimentation combined with freedom of expression.

The primary challenge was reducing the weight of the framework so that it could be used more effectively. The outstanding formal quality, construction, and invention capacity that characterize the work of high cabinet-making by the Cassina are on full display in the clean, minimal lines and spacious interiors. The solid ash or Canaletto walnut frame serves as the base for the upholstered seat and backrest.
